White Angel Breadline
White Angel Breadline is widely considered to be Lange’s first documentary photograph. Apparently, Dorothea was in her studio when she noticed so much poverty happening outside and took her camera with her to the streets of San Francisco to document it. This photo was taken at the White Angel Jungle, known as a soup kitchen on the waterfront. It shows a man with a tin cup facing away from a crowd of other unemployed men.
