Children of the Weill Public School
After the U.S. entered World War Two, Dorothea Lange was hired by the War Relocation Authority to document Japanese Americans who were forced to relocate to incarceration camps since they were now being perceived as threats. Lange reportedly didn’t agree with the project, and only worked on it so she had access to what was happening. This image depicts a Japanese girl standing with her classmates as she recites the Pledge of Allegiance.
