Church of St. James the Greater
National hero Jose Rizal painted a backdrop for the church altar during his exile from July 17, 1892 to July 31, 1896, inspired by a church in Barcelona. The picture, however, was later destroyed by fire. A monument near the entryway also marks the spot where Rizal used to stand every Sunday while he heard Mass. Due to his excommunication from the Catholic Church, he was unable to approach the altar during Mass.
