Uniform-clad pupils of the Chisinau School for Girls give salute of the Straga Taree
In this photograph taken by Margaret Bourke-White, a line of girls in uniform are shown giving a stiff right armed salute at a school in Romania. Taken in 1940, it captures members of a youth organization called Strage Taree, which was influenced by the political movements of that era. Even though it looks like it could be from Germany, it’s actually a look at the compulsory youth groups that existed in Romania during the war.
