Whanki Kim (1913-1974)
Whanki Kim was born in the Seoul Province of South Korea in 1913, and spent the majority of his adolescence studying fine arts in Tokyo, Japan. He is considered a first generation Korean abstract artists, and was greatly influenced by the works of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Whanki Kim's earlier works are considered to be semi-abstract, depicting certain forms and objects in his paintings, while his later work was far more abstract by using lines, dots, and spaces.
