Ilex paraguayensis “Yerba Mate”
A. A member of the Holly family grows wild in the South American lattitudes of 25° and 32° in the Rìo de la Plata Basin. In the modern day republics of Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru (Lopez 1974). This tree grows 4 to 8 meters in height and from a distance looks like an orange tree (Reber 1985).
